Mrs. C.D. Burns Funeral Held Tuesday
Laura Burns, 68, of 809 Central ave., wife of Marion's postmaster C.D. Burns, died Sunday morning at 4:55 in a Cedar Rapids hospital after an illness of several days.
Mrs. Burns was born Nov. 30, 1885, the daughter of Ralph E., and Angelina Ashlock Tripp, on a farm east of Center Point. After then living at Troy Mills and Walker, she moved to Marion in 1904 and graduated from the Marion high school in 1907. Mrs. Burns was also a graduate of Coe College of Cedar Rapids. She taught in the Marion schools from Sept., 1908 until June, 1938. For three years during World War II, she taught in Martelle.
Mrs. Burns was married to C.D. Burns, at Cedar Rapids, on June 2, 1923. Surviving in addition to her her husband is a brother, Bernard R. Tripp of Milwaukee, Wis.
She was a member of the Marion Methodist church, Marion Chapter No. 183, O.E.S., Marion Linn Chapter of D.A.R. Electa Circle of Kings Daughters, the Cary Club and Shakespeare Club. Memorial services were conducted in the Murdoch Chapel, Marion at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday by the Rev. James P. Gable, and members og the Marion Chapter No. 183 O.E.S. Burial was in Oak Shade Cemetery.
