MRS. LENA T. RING DEAD, LONG PROMINENT IN CLUB AFFAIRS
-----------------------------
Mrs. Lena T. Ring, wife of Attorney H.C. Ring, and one of the most prominent Cedar Rapids women in social and woman's club circles in the state, died at 1:30 a.m. today at her home, 1920 Fifth avenue, following an illness of two weeks duration.
Mrs. Ring, since coming to Cedar Rapids in 1909, had taken a very active part in the women's civic and club activities in the city and had become well known in several state organizations, having been president of the state assembly of the Rebekah lodge in 1911, a former department president of the Iowa department of the W.R.C. She was recording secretary of the Cedar Rapids Woman's club at the time of her death and also a leader of the Current Events department of that organization. She was an active member of the local Red Cross chapter and took part in all war work in which women participated here.
In St. Paul's Methodist church, she was one of the leaders among the women and for several years had been the teacher of the Philathea class of young women in the Sunday school at that church. She was a member of Cedar chapter of the Eastern Star, the Pythian Sisters and of T.Z. Cook No. 11 Women's Relief Corps.
Mrs. Ring was born in Center Point, May 3, 1870, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Tripp, now living at Marion. She had lived in Linn county all of her life, being a resident at different times of Walker and Marion, in addition to Center Point and Cedar Rapids. On June 28, 1893, she was married to Herbert C. Ring and in 1909 Mr. and Mrs. Ring moved from Marion to Cedar Rapids, making their home here since that time.
Surviving Mrs. Ring, in addition to her husband and parents, are one brother, Sergt. Bernard Tripp, Whipple barracks, Prescott, Ariz., and one sister, Miss Laura Tripp, of Marion.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's church Saturday at 10 a.m., the Rev. A.M. Jayne, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Shade cemetery at Marion. The body has been removed to the Turner mortuary where it may be reviewed by friends who may so desire.
