John E. Hackert, 73, or 462 Seventh ave., and a resident of Marion since 1950 and formerly of Alburnett, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3 in a Cedar Rapids hospital. He was born the son of Fred and Rose Klinger Hackert on May 21, 1899 near Alburnett. On May 14, 1925 at Iowa City, he was married to Nellie Cory. Mr. Hackert farmed until 1946, and retired in 1964 from Iowa Manufacturing Co. in Cedar Rapids where he had been employed for 18 years. He was a member of the Evangelical church of Alburnett.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Ted (Marge) Davin; and a son Robert E. Hackert, both of Marion; three grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Leo (Lillie) McGowan and Rosie Hackert, both of Marion, Mrs. Carl (Alta) Nelson of Imperial Beach, Calif.; and three brothers, Herman of Central City, George of Marion and Carl of Rowley.
Services were held Monday, Nov. 6 at 1:30 p.m. at the Murdoch Chapel in Marion, conducted by the Pastor William Larson. Interment was in Oak Shade cemetery in Marion.
