Julius "Jerry" Bigger, 77, of 477 Fifth Ave., a lifelong resident of the Marion area, died Aug. 14 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. The son of James and Elizabeth Schultz Bigger, he was born on Aug. 31, 1905 in Marion. He was a 1923 graduate of Marion High School and attended the University of Iowa. Mr. Bigger farmed in the rural Southeast Marion from 1930 until 1963. From 1964 until retiring in 1977, he was employed by the Marion Parks Department.
Surviving are two sisters, Louise Nielsen of Marion and Ethel Barnett of Temple City, Calif.; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Bigger.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at the Murdoch Chapel in Marion, conducted by the Rev. Jay A. Miller of the First United Presbyterian Church. Interment was in Oak Shade Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
