Stanley M. Nielsen, 76, Attorney, of 1340 Fifth Ave., a resident of Marion since 1944, died Saturday, May 7, in Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness. He was born the son of Hans and Mary Nelson Nielsen on Oct. 11, 1906 in Stanley County, South Dakota. On June 12, 1934 at Cedar Rapids, he was married to Louise Bigger. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the China-Burma-India Theatre of War; attended Coe College; and was an attorney since 1931 until retiring in 1962. He formerly served as County Attorney of Humboldt County. Nielsen was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Marion, a Mason and a 5-year member of Marion Lodge No. 6, A.F. & A.M.; a member of Chapter 10, RAM; Apollo Commandery, No. 26, KT; El Kahir Shrine; a 50 year member of the Iowa Bar Association; a member of the Linn County Bar Association; and of Post No. 788 of V.F.W.
Surviving are his wife; a son, J. Bruce Nielsen of Marion; a daughter M. Kay Nielsen of Iowa City; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Brandon.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 10 at the Murdoch Chapel in Marion, conducted by Rev. Jay A. Miller. Interment was in Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion. A Memorial Fund has been established.
