Ada L. Freese Schmitt, 88, formerly of 517 Third St. SW, wife of the late Joseph A. Schmitt, died Monday at a Cedar Rapids hospital following a sudden illness.
Born Nov. 6, 1890, at Brooklyn, she was married to Mr. Schmitt on Dec. 31, 1944, at Cedar Rapids. He died in 1974. Mrs. Schmitt was an employee of Quaker Oats for 15 years before her retirement in 1947. She was a member of the Eagles Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Beulah Voeltz of Cedar Rapids and Ozella Brenner of Burbank, Calif.; two sons, Harold Freese of Marion and Milan Freese of Cedar Rapids; one stepson, Orville Schmitt of Cedar Rapids; one stepdaughter, Cora Gibson of Muncie, Ind.; 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Turner Chapel East by the Rev. Jay Miller of First United Presbyterian Church, Marion. Burial: Shiloh Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Wednesday.
