Sylvester N. Mills, son of Daniel and Mary Mills, was born in Ohio January 28, 1845.
He came to Linn county, Iowa, with his parents in 1855, locating near Cedar Rapids. Except for a few years, Linn county has since been his home.
He was married in Linn county to Mrs. Lucy A. Mills, December 26, 1867, who passed away from this life December 18, 1909. To this union were born six children, two boys and four girls. The eldest, a daughter, dying in infancy, Sidney J., Lucy A. of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Ruby J. Drake of Palo; Alice E. and Chester W. of Cedar Rapids.
He was stricken with apoplexy July 27 and lingered until the morning of August 2, when he quietly passed away, being the last of a family of thirteen brothers and sisters.
In early life he was an active member of the Free Methodist church. About five years ago he renewed his relations with the church during the Sunday meetings and united with Trinity M.E. church of this city of which he was a member at the time of his death.
He leaves besides the sons and daughters, seven grand children, several nieces and nephews.
