Thursday October 3, 1940 The Marion Sentinel
Mrs. John A. Green, 90 years of age and a resident of the Robins neighborhood practically all of her long life, was fatally burned Monday morning about 10 o'clock when a can of polishing fluid, which she was using to polish the stove at her home, caught file and exploded. She ran into the yard screaming, and her aged husband tore the burning garments from her body, and she was rushed to a Cedar Rapids hospital, and given every possible aid, but she died just before midnight.
Mrs. Green was born in New Jersey April 2, 1850, and came with her parents to a farm adjoining her home at the age of five years. She was first married to George Wright, who died in 1903. She lived alone until 1920 when she was married to John A. Green. Besides the husband she is survived by three stepdaughters, Mrs. Alice Appleby of Hopkinton, Mrs. Cassie Wilson of Manchester and Mrs. John Schminkey of Robins and a step-son, Charles Green of Marion.
She was a former member of the Shiloh Methodist church, but later affiliated with the Church of the Brethren of Robins, whose minister, Rev. Myers, had charge of the funeral services. Burial was made at the Shiloh cemetery near Louisa.
