James W. Baughman Dies Following Brief Illness of Pneumonia
James W. Baughman, a resident of Marion for the past quarter of a century, passed away Friday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.H. Seidel, 1935 Bever avenue, Cedar Rapids. Death followed a brief illness of pneumonia.
Mr. Baughman was a native of Ohio, having been born at Tiffin, Seneca County, on April 30, 1836, so lacked only a few days of being eighty-two years of age. On Oct. 3, 1858, he was married to Sarah Catherine Ellenberger and they came to Washington, Ill., to make their home. Later they moved to a farm near El Paso, Ill., and after a few years spent there, Mr. Baughman established himself in the implement business in the town of El Paso.
In 1892, Mr. Baughman and family came to Marion making this their home until the death of Mrs. Baughman last December.
Early in life he united with the United Brethern church but after moving to El Paso transferred his membership to the Methodist church. For several years he was a member of the official board of the Marion Methodist church.
Of a retiring disposition, Mr. Baughman's interests centered about the home. His four children, Chas. W., residing near Alburnett, Mrs. W.H. Seidel and Mrs. W.G. Thomas of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. R.A. Goudy, Petersburg, Va., survive him. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Shaull, of Marengo, four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon, April 28th, conducted by his pastor, the Rev. A.H. Hanscom. Interment in Oak Shade cemetery.
