Marion Register December 14, 1917
ISAAC NASH
Eighty and nine years was the age of Isaac Nash of Springville a notice of whose death, together with a merited tribute by Ben R. Reichard have appeared in recent issues of the Register. He was a native of Illinois. He served in the Mexican war under General Zachary Taylor. In 1850 he was married to Miss Mary A. Berry who died in 1911--aged 78 years.
Mr. Nash enlisted in 1861. His Company was assigned to the 27th Illinois infantry. He served during the civil war and was promoted to 1st lieutenant for bravery on the firing line. There were six children, one of whom was Mrs. Alice Sigfred, now deceased who was the mother of Mr. Ed Sigfred of this city. Another was Charles F. Nash, now a prosperous and well known Marion twp citizen.
Every civil war veteran in Linn county unites with the bereaved relatives and hundreds of devoted friends in mourning his passing to fame's eternal camp ground. The New Era says:
"Until recent years he was actively identified, with the agricultural and industrial interests. He then laid aside all business cares to spend his remaining years in the ease and comfort to which he was entitled. His friends and acquaintances, and every acquaintance seemed a friend, were a legion. The passage of time did not appear to lessen the native ardor of his spirit or his interest in current affairs, although during the most recent years poor health and eyesight were a handicap to his accustomed activities about the community. The large assemblage that paid tribute to his memory at the funeral witnessed to the high esteem in which he was held by those who knew him.
