The death of Mrs. W.H. Johnson occurred last Friday morning at her late home on E. 7th avenue in Marion, after a two weeks' illness of heart trouble. Mr. Johnson is also in poor health. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at the house, conducted by Rev. Jay Jasper Jones, pastor of the Congregational church, interment taking place in Oak Shade cemetery.
Clarissa Church was born in the town of Wester, Oneida Co., New York, Aug. 27, 1839, and died at Marion, Iowa, Sept. 10, 1909, aged 70 years and 14 days. She was married Dec. 24, 1857, to Warren H. Johnson at Belleville, Wayne County, Michigan, who survives her. To this union ten children were born, nine of whom are still living and were at home at the time of her death. They are as follows: Mrs. Ida M. Kemp, Miss Bertha F. Johnson and Miss Essie H. Johnson, Marion, Iowa; Mrs. Ella M. Exline, Geddes, S.D.; Mrs. Clara M. Patterson, Chicago, Ill.; Mr. Warren C. Johnson, Mason City, Iowa; Mrs. Jennie C. Seelye, Traer, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Morrow, Ottumwa, Iowa, and Mr. Curtis J. Johnson, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. J.F. McIntyre and two brothers, C.J. Church and S.P. Church, all of Marion, Iowa.
She was converted and joined the M.E. church of Lisbon in 1867, and in 1876, together with her husband, joined the Congregational church of Marion, of which she was a member at the time of her death.
