Bertha Johnson Byers, 81, died Wednesday at 8 p.m. in an Independence hospital following a long illness.
Born Aug. 27, 1870, at Lisbon, she was a lifelong resident of Marion and Cedar Rapids. Her husband, James Byers, died in 1941. Surviving are three sisters, Esther "Sessie" Johnson, Cedar Rapids; Ann Morrow, Ottumwa, and Jennie Seeley, Compton, Calif.; and a brother, Curtis Johnson of Marion.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the grave in Oakshade cemetery. Friends may call at the Yocom-Murdoch chapel Friday evening.
