Fred Schultz, 82, resident of Marion for many years, died Thursday at 4:45 a.m., March 29, 1956, following a long illness.
Born Dec. 3, 1873 at Sabula, he was the son of John and Dora Schultz. He came to Marion when he was seven years old and has made Marion his home since then.
Best known for his horse radish business, which he described as "Marion's strongest industry", he was a stone mason by trade. He was employed for many years by the Milwaukee railroad, a part of the time in the bridge building department. During the war years he was employed at Collins Radio company.
He was married Oct. 20, 1898 at Marion to Elizabeth Thompson, who passed away May 20, 1927 at Marion. He was a member of the Marion Free Methodist church and of the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees.
Surviving are a son George F. Schultz of Marion, and two daughters, Miss Sylvia Schultz of Marion and Mrs. Herman (Hazel) Hackert of Alburnett. A son Russell preceded him in death.
Memorial services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Murdoch chapel, the Rev. J.P. Knepper officiating. Interment will be in Oak Shade cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel.
