Sarah was born in a log cabin on her father's homestead in Boulder Township, Linn County, Iowa. Their cabin was the second erected in this township and according to the best available authority, she was the first white child born in Boulder Township.
Here she grew to womanhood, receiving her education in the near-by school. At the age of 14, she united with the Boulder Reform Church. She remained a faithful member of this church until she united with the Congregational Church of Central City in 1892. To her church and faith she remained faithful until the end.
On June 20, 1870, she was united in marriage to Thomas Hill of Boulder Township. There were born to this union four children, one, Vincent died in infancy. They settled at Hill's Mill with his brother.
Mr. Hill preceded her in death February 19, 1887.
On June 20, 1897, she was united in marriage to James Slife, at which time they moved to Central City where she made her home until her death. Mr. Slife preceded her in death May 10, 1917.
Mrs. Slife had been in failing health for a number of years, but was more or less actively engaged in her household duties and other pursuits of life until about eleven weeks prior to her death when she became confined to her bed from sickness and never recovered. She passed peacefully, Friday, noon, on February 27, 1925.
