Richard J. Woods, 51, of rural Springville and a resident of Paralta for the past 19 years, passed away suddenly Friday afternoon, Sept. 16 while on a construction job in Iowa City. He was born the son of Jesse and Verna Campbell Woods on Nov. 7, 1914 at Springville, Ia. On July 3, 1937 he was married to Gladys Klopp at Burnside, Ia. Mr. Woods served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a driver currently working on construction of apartments by Bjornsen Construction Co. He was a member of Local 238, Chauffers and Teamsters Union.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Thomas of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Carol at home; his mother, Mrs. Jesse Woods of Paralta; a grandson Gary Edward Woods of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Ivan and Arnold of Cedar Rapids and a sister, Mrs. Harold (Ruth) Conrad of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary on June 24, 1960 and two brothers, Arthur and Raymond.
Services were 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19 at the Murdoch chapel in Marion, conducted by the Rev. Clyde Scott, pastor of the Springville Methodist church. Interment was in Oak Shade cemetery.
