Walter S. Hewitt, 92, of 233 Fiftheenth st., Marion, died Thursday evening, March 31, at 8:45 p.m., in a Cedar Rapids nursing home, after a long illness.
He was born on January 6, 1863, at Rockford, Ill, the son of Alexander and Louise Kidder Hewitt. He was married to Evalena Richardson, in 1888, at Rockford, Ill. They moved to Cedar Rapids, in 1893, where Mr. Hewitt was in the grocery business for a number of years. He retired about 30 years ago, and has made his home in Marion since that time. Mrs. Hewitt died in 1952. Since Mrs. Hewitt's death, he had made his home with a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Henry N. Miller, at Marion.
Surviving in addition to Mrs. Miller is a son, Ralph M. Hewitt, of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were conducted Saturday, at the Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion, by the Rev. Roy Fields, Jr. Interment was in Oak Shade cemetery, Marion.
