Thursday March 25, 1920 The Marion Weekly Sentinel
Mrs. Mary L. McKnight died Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock, at her home at 1960 Seventh avenue, following a long period of illness. More than a year ago she suffered an attack of influenza, and never recovered from the effects.
She was born in Belle Plaine in 1875 [sic] graduating from the high school there. Her marriage to James McKnight took place September 21, 1897, and to this union two children were born. Margaret, who graduated from High school last year, and James, thirteen years old. Mr. McKnight was killed in a railroad accident over six years ago, so these two children are now left orphaned.
Mrs. McKnight was of a retiring disposition, but was a good friend and neighbor. Since the death of her husband, the companionship of her children meant so much to her, and their devotion to her during the long period of ill health, especially that of the daughter, was beautiful. Besides the children, a sister, Mrs. Greenly, of Belle Plaine, survives.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at Pingrey's chapel, with the Rev. H.G. Finney, of the Presbyterian church officiating. Marion Chapter, Order of Easter Star, of which Mrs. McKnight was a member, assisted in the services. Interment was in Oak Shade cemetery.
