George Eliot Houver was born Sept. 3, 1832, in Wayne county, Indiana, and died at his home in Marion, Feb. 10, 1913, at the age of 80 years and past. He was married to Anna Hussaw in 1855 and to this union nine children were born only three of whom are living, J.J. Houver of Paralta, Luther Houver of California and Mrs. Morris of Medicine Lodge, Kas. His wife died in 1879 and in 1887 he married Mrs. Sarah Geiger, one son Clyde being born to this union. His second wife died in May, 1910, and in December of the same year he married Mrs. Caroline Serverson, who survives him, also his step-daughter, Mrs. Mary Geiger-Blackledge.
Mr. Houver was an old soldier and a member of the G.A.R. He served in the war with Company H, Twentieth Iowa. He was always a great student of the Bible and even failing eyesight did hon hinder from reading as much as he was able.
