William Conger died at his home in this city at an early hour Saturday morning after an ilness (sic) of about three weeks, a complication of diseases. He was a veteran of the civil war having been a member of the 3rd Wisconsin cavalry. At the close of the war he entered service as a locomotive fireman and in short time became an engineer working on several roads among them being the Santa Fe which he helped to build from the Missouri river. He entered the service of the Milwaukee about twenty-six years ago, residing for some time at Austin, Minn., where he was appointed traveling engineer coming to Marion sixteen years ago which has been his home since. He was born in New York in 1847 and married in Wisconsin in 1868 and is survived by his wife and one daughter, Vesta who is at home and two sons, Harry and Nelson who are engineers on the Milwaukee at Mobridge, S.D. and who were at his side when the summons came. He was a member of the Court of Honor, G.A.R. and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and was widely known in railroad (can't read). The funeral was held from the residence at 2:30 this afternoon the services being conducted by Rev. _ M. Jennings of the Presbyterian church, interment in Oak Shade. There was a large attendance of fellow railroad employes from many points on the Milwaukee railroad.
