W.R. Alexander, 75, Dies; Was Lifelong Linn Co. Resident
William R. Alexander, 75, retired farmer, died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday at his home, 1480 Fifth avenue, after a long illness.
Born March 9, 1868, in Otter Creek township, he was a lifelong resident of Linn county. Married Dec. 30, 1890, to Effie I. Burns, they retired in November 1940, from a farm three miles north of Marion, where they had lived for 40 years.
Mr. Alexander was a member of the Marion Baptists church. In addition to his wife he is survived by nine children: Mrs. Clara Baumgartner, Dewey Alexander and Loyd Alexander, Cedar Rapids; Glenn Alexander and Richard Alexander with the Seabees, Redwood City, Calif.; Donald Alexander, navy chief electrician's mate, Norfolk, Va.; Harold Alexander, Freeport, Tex.; Mrs. Genevieve Lavie, Chicago, and Mrs. Margaret Seeks, Marion; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Josie Cunningham, and a brother, Charles Alexander, both of St. Paul.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Friends may call at the Yocom chapel.
