Catherine Stanton Died Early Friday; Long Resident Here
Catherine Stanton, a resident of Marion for more than forty years, died at her home, 344 Thirteenth street Friday, July 4, at 12:45 a.m.
She was born May 25, 1865 at Springfield, Ill., the daughter of Joshua and Mary Walters Hays. She was married in 1884 to Benjamin Stanton, who died in Marion in 1915. She is survived by four children, Ralph of Cedar Rapids, Earl of LaCrosse, Wis., and Raymond and Ruth of Marion. One son, Roy, died in 1936. Three brothers and a sister also survive--James A. Hayes of Marion, and Charles E. and Henry Hayes and Mrs. Alice Jayne of Cedar Rapids. There are five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Marion Presbyterian church, and funeral services were conducted at the Yocom Funeral chapel Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by her pastor, the Rev. C.W.R. DeJong. Burial was made in Oak Shade cemetery.
