Marcia A. Balcom, 73, of 590 S. 11th St., Marion, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, in Willow Gardens Care Center following a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Mike Morgan of First United Methodist Church in Marion. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and at the chapel after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Survivors include her husband, Gene; three daughters, Jennie Balcom (Mark Glowacki) and Julie Leonard (Mark), both of Des Moines, and Joni Moeller (Phil) of Marion; two sisters, Donna Roslyn of Red Bank, N.J., and Nancy MacMillan of Gulf Port, Miss.; three grandchildren, Michael Moeller, Gabriella and Hailee Leonard; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Johnson and Shirley Wallace, both of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Mary Sprague; an infant son, Eric; and a brother, Tom.
Marcia was born Nov. 6, 1931, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Dale and Julia Whittecar Sprague. She married Gene E. Balcom on Oct. 23, 1955, in Early, Iowa. She was a homemaker and member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion, where she was active in the choir, as a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Christian Clowning Group. She was also a lifetime member of the Marion Musical Literary Club.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Marion.
