Crash Injuries Prove Fatal to W.J Knoebel
William J. Knoebel, 82, of 1665 Eighth Street NW, died Tuesday afternoon in Mercy hospital of injuries suffered in a car-train accident Feb. 12.
He suffered multiple injuries when the car he was driving was struck by a Chicago and Northwestern freight train at the crossing of E avenue NW.
His death is the fourth traffic death in Cedar Rapids this year. There had been no traffic deaths in the city on the same date last year.
Born June 5, 1887, in McGregor, he had lived in Cedar Rapids 75 years. Mr. Knoebel retired from the Quaker Oats Co. in 1952. He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus. He married in Cedar Rapids May 24, 1916, to Tillie Kudrna.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two brothers Walter and Clarence, both of Cedar Rapids, and three sisters, Bertina Smith, Chicago, and Lottie Gaskill and Margaret Moscript, both of Cedar Rapids.
Services: St. Patrick’s church Friday at 10 am by the Rev. Paul Maguire. Burial: St. John’s cemetery. The following Rosaries will be recited at the Stewart funeral home Thursday: Knights of Columbus at 7:30 pm and Father Maguire at 8 pm. Friends my call Thursday after 2 pm.
