SPRINGVILLE, IOWA -- Mitchell Alan Horak, 7, of Springville, was raised up into the loving arms of his Papa Vernon, Grandma Minger, Grandma T. and Elmer Murphy on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008.
Mitchell was doing what he loved most, farming with his dad and Papa Rusty. Mitchell gave the gift of life by donating to the Iowa Donor Network.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at the Springville Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Karen Downey Beals officiating. Burial will be in Wilcox Cemetery, Viola. Friends may call from 2 to
6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
He was born on June 18, 2001, son of Alan and Sarah (Minger) Horak in Cedar Rapids.
He had his backpack ready for second grade at Springville Elementary. He worshipped at the Springville Presbyterian Church.
Mitchell loved the farm and collecting tractors and trains. His favorite activities were being on the farm with his dad, kicking a ball and being with his family.
Mitchell was loved by his church family and will be missed so much. Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Mitchell loved Jesus and was not afraid when he was taken to heaven on angels wings. We love you, Mitchell.
Surviving are his parents, Alan and Sarah; his sister, Emily; grandparents, Susan Minger, Mark (Sandy) Minger, Rusty (Becky) Horak and Deb (Mel) Freese; great-grandmothers, Phyllis Schultz, of Dubuque, Shirley Horak and Eleanor Murphy; aunts and uncles, Jeff and Sharon Minger, Ben and Gail Minger, of Dubuque, and Tracy and Tom Feldmann; several cousins, including Jesina, Kalli, Isaac, Elaina, Abby and Gabe; great-aunt and uncle, Steve and Diane Jensen, and family; and many other loving family members.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandfathers, Vernon L. Horak, Robert Schultz and Elmer Murphy; great-grandparents, Carl and Mildred Minger; and great-great-grandmother, Irene Turecek.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Mitchell's memory.
