Frozen to Death
~
Special Correspondence to the Dubuque Herald;

Cedar Rapids Jan. 3. – The weather during the past two days has been decidedly cold, the mercury registering thirty-two degrees below zero yesterday, and twenty-four this morning. “Open Winter” prophets will now see the results of their prognostications.

Last Tuesday night a little babe belonging to a family named Franks, froze to death during the night, and that too sleeping between the mother and father. The family were in very destitute circumstances, and an eye witness says the only covering on the bed consisted of some old coffee sacks. Two other children on the west side were frozen badly Wednesday night. This is severe weather on the poor, and now is the time for those disposed to extend the hand of charity.
