Jackson Sentinel, Maquoketa, Iowa, June 17, 1886.

The CEDAR RAPIDS REPUBLICAN of Tuesday morning says: “Twenty-two men and women who belong to the Salvation Army, were arrested and locked up Sunday night for disobeying the mayor’s orders against parading and drumming on Sunday. They spent the night in singing characteristic songs, and will be tried this morning. By their persistent defiance and stubborn refusal to comply with courteous requests to cease the nuisance, the Salvationists are losing the sympathy of the citizens.”
