Cedar Valley Times, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, February 14, 1861.
Early last Monday morning a large party of secessionists from Rock Island County, Il., made an attack upon Fort Armstrong, which for some years has not been occupied by United States troops, and raised the palmetto flag and fired cannons over the event. A few hours afterwards a company from Davenport marched to the fort, when the secessionists retreated, leaving their cannon and stores. The fort is now in possession of the Davenport military companies, and the American flag has been raised amidst the salvos of artillery.
