I am looking for the last marriage (DATE OF) of James Newberry to a woman named AMANDA. James' sons lived in Lee County, and the Elliott family who we think links with this Amanda lived in Lucas Co. James was an old Mormon man who married this sweet young thing when she was only a teenager. He was in his 80's at the time. Can anyone help us to pin this down the marriage date? The time frame is as follows:

Time Line for research on James Newberry Marriage

Goal: To find last marriage date/certificate circa 1870 to 1873 for James and Amanda Newberry.

April 1848 - Marriage to Sybil (Pulsipher) Newberry 1848, in Nebraska, Winter Quarters – Temporary Mormon Camp.

September 1856 - Purchased land in 1856 in Mills Co., IA., and Montgomery Co., IA.

January 6, 1870 - Wife #4 Sybil Newberry dies – James remarries to AMANDA sometime after this.

July 1870 - Sold land in Indian Creek Mills Co., IA and moves to Wheelers Grove Pottawattamie Co. IA. No spousal name on the deed.

August 1870 - Purchases land in Wheelers Grove, Pottawattamie Co., IA. No spousal name on the deed.

September 16, 1873 – James sells a portion of his land in Wheeler’s Grove for a school house. This is the first time Amanda’s name appears in documentation.

July 1880 - James dies, but Amanda is no longer with him. Will shows the word “widow” scribed into the document and the crossed out. Separation suspected. In a published mug book for one of James’ sons, it says his father’s wife went to Harrison County. Other research indicates possibly Page Co. Not that any of this is relevant, but I thought it might help.

Also in 1870 an Elliot family with daughter Amanda shows up in the census. She is approximately the right age. A woman with her mother’s name shows up in old Mormon Cutlerite records as well. James was a Cutlerite. This Amanda dies in California in 1930 still named Newberry even though she has a son named Epla. Again, this is irrelevant, but it shows that we haven’t been resting on our laurels hoping that you will do the end work for us. :-)
