Des Moines Township is directly to the west of Montrose Township in Lee County, Iowa. Des Moines Township lies along the Des Moines River. Missouri is on the other side of the river. In looking at the county map in the 1879 Lee County History, there really weren't towns of any size in the township - Hinsdale and Vencennes. None of your 3 surnames are listed in the biographical section.
