marriage pre 1880 records exist?

Am interested in requesting marriage record from Lee Co courthouses but their website says, "Record Location
Vital Records: 1880 – 1920 Lee County Recorder’s Office"
Do they not have marriage license applications before 1880 ?? Thanks for any information. I do have the index of a marriage in 1856 but it has no parent names, witness, anything only the 2 who are wed, date, and the officiant.
