Hi Margie-
My Great Great Grandfather's full name was William Henrici aka Henry Howard, I have a very hard to read document about his marriage to Mary Barbara Carroll that says he was born in, I believe, Wayne Co., IL and that this was his second marriage (don't have any info on the first marriage at all). He was born on May 5, 1955. I cannot find him listed in the census prior to the marriage. They were married in 1882 in Fort Madison per the St. Josephs Church book that has a listing for my Great Grandfather William Francis Carroll Howard's christening. I know that the Howard family left for Kansas City, Mo. around 1915. Wm. Sr. was a Barber in Boone Co. around the time he was married according to the census records and the directory. Oh, the witness on the christening record was Stephen Corse and his wife Magdelena Corse. Maybe family friends? Wm. Jr. married Augusta Neugebauer whose mother was Fredericka Neugebauer - a German family from around the area. I have much information about this line. Mary Barbara Carroll's father was Francis aka Frank Alexander Carroll b. in Crossmolina, Co. Mayo, Ireland and his wife was Mary Eva Windmeyer. I am not exactly sure what happened to the Carrolls but I think Frank and Mary Carroll died there in Iowa in or around the Fort Madison area. This line is the one line that is most important to me because it is my surname and funny enough it is the hardest line to figure out. My father and his sister lost their parents at a very young age so we have no information to work from. I have been trying to piece together the picture for all of us. The only strand of information about Wm. Sr. is that he may have been an orphan. Where that info comes from no one knows. I have noticed in the census records that Wm. Sr. states that his father was b. in Germany and his mother was b. in Kentucky. I have searched the census records but it seems that Illinois had a great many fires and many records were lost, so I may never know. I feel that there is more information to be found in Iowa and may need to someday make a trip there. I don't think we had any Howards left in Iowa after 1915 but I could be wrong. I suppose Wm. Sr. could have had sisters or brothers but I have no idea.Thank you for noticing my little entry!
