Not sure if you found the info you're looking for but, if not, I can help. Charles Dewend was born in Cleveland, Ohio and he was the son of August Dewend (born Sept 1816 in Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Germany and died Aug 17, 1900 In Collinwood (part of Cleveland), Ohio) and Anna Barbary Reiff (Born Oct 1818 in Germany and died March 16, 1907 in Cleveland, Ohio). Augustus seems to have traveled to America with 2 brothers, Johann J Dewend (born Jan 1815 in Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Germany and died July 1887 in Cleveland Ohio) and my 4x great grandfather Charles Friedrich Dewend (born 1823 in Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Germany and died 1896 in West Union, Adams, Ohio). My 4x great grandfather was came with his wife, Christina Ernestina Selke, and 2 sons, including my 3x great grandfather, Frederick John T Dewend (Devand) who was born in 1847. Charles Friedrich Dewend, Charles' other son, was born in 1851. So there were a few Charles' in the family. August also had a daughter named Mary who born on Dec 8, 1860 in Cleveland, Ohio and died on Apr 6, 1935 in Geneva, Ohio. BTW, I'm almost certain "Dewend" isn't their original name. I'm still working on deciphering it. But sometime after my 3x great grandfather and his wife and kids came back to Cleveland from West Union he started going by the name "Devand". In fact, one of his children started the Devand Funeral Home here in Cleveland. I don't think the original name, the one they had before they immigrated, was "Devand" either.
