Tall tales? G-grandpa and the Civil War

MCDANIEL, HUDDLESTON

The obituary of my g-grandfather, George James LeWillis McDaniel (1854-1933), states that he was a veteran, having served as a drummer boy in the Civil War. His parents, Richard Lewis McDaniel & Arminda Smart Huddleston were living in Cedar Twp, Lee, IA from ~1855 to ~1876, so if he was acting as drummer boy, I am guessing it would be with a Lee County regiment. Does he show up in any regiments and/or do you have any idea where or if this would be documented? Thanks in advance! MCS
