You will have to know what COUNTY in IOWA he was
sentenced from.

Each county has it's own District Court Index
A-Z, and that same index has tab for CRIMINALS
listing as State of Iowa vs ( name )

That line in the book will give reference to BOX
in District Court in which you will find it. Most
of these before 1900 will be found in dirty base
ment store rooms, but are a gold mine of information. Often names of others "sent up" for
the same crime are also included. Good luck!!

Do not confuse District Court Index with the
Circuit Court which is for estate records.

Court house employees usually REFUSE to dig into
them, so you may have to contact a genie
society in the county of interest. Be sure and
ask before hand what they charge per hour and
per page to copy.
