Please Help - I have an obit for my husband's ancestor but I have no information on John's parents or who it was that raised him. Since 2000, I've tried to get a copy of his son's obit, John Edgar Hartley b. 1900 died in 1962 in Ft.Madison. Multiple internet promises for help over the last 9 years but I haven't seen an obit yet. Tried the library as well. Any advice out there? I don't live close enough to go to the cemetery or library. Thank you!

FATHER LAID TO REST

John Hartley was born March 17, 1863 near Upton, Iowa. Early in life he became an orphan and was raised by friends in Scotland County, Missouri. (He died Dec. 22, 1928, at Fort Madison, Iowa, aged 65 years, 9 months and 5 days.

March 5, 1893, he was married to Julia Sibley of Arbela, Mo, near which place they started their married life on a farm. For a long time Mr. Hartley farmed near Kahoka, then went to Iowa to work. His sudden death came as the result of a stroke that reached the heart. As there was no warning sickness, he did not suffer.

Besides his companion; the following children survive him: Mrs. Earl Newnham, Ft. Madison, Iowa; Mrs. Otho Wright, Kahoka, Mo; Robert, of Ft. Madison, Iowa; John of LaHarpe, Ill.; Mrs. George Lawrence, Ft. Collins, Colo.; Minah and Harold at home. There are also nineteen grandchildren who survive.

Mr. Hartley had been a member of the Modern Woodmen lodge for years and was active in doing deeds of charity for friends and neighbors. Such activities will be greatly missed by his circle of friends.

The burial took place in the Kahoka cemetery Wednesday after a funeral service at the Baptist church, conducted by Rev. D.F. Bartine, paster of the Baptist church, assisted by E.H. Farmer of the M.E. church South.

I post this repeatedly looking for help or an answer - a copy of an obit or any information. Any help will be appreciated!
