Record keeping did not begin in Lee Co., Iowa until 1880, therefore, a death record would not be found at the courthouse.

Who are you looking for in Washington Township? I have many cemetery listings. I might be able to help you.

Many old newspapers on microfilm at the Cattermole Library in Ft. Madison, IA. I'm not sure of the beginning date of the newspapers.
