Robert Manka Sr.
Robert John Manka Sr., 88, of Fort Madison, died at 7:20 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Fort Madison Community Hospital.
Born June 5, 1915, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Louis Joseph and Ida Mary Menke Manka. On Feb. 17, 1939, he married Vivian Corine Breen in Fort Madison.
Mr. Manka owned and operated Manka Distributing.
He was involved in scouting for many years and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jacqueline Kurtt of Ahwahnee, Calif., and Beverly Brockman of Fort Madison; two sons, Robert Manka Jr. and Michael Manka, both of Fort Madison; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alice Watson, Maria Teixeria and Ella Teixeria, all of Stuart, Fla., and two brothers, Jerome Manka of Nauvoo, Ill., and Richard Manka of Lanesville, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at King-Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. and a rosary will be recited at 5:15 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Manka will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Ss. Mary & Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Madison, with the Rev. Thomas Parlette officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the VFW Color Guard Post 1805, Marine Corps League and American Legion Post 82.
A memorial has been established.
