MRS. GILCHRIST DEAD
After Months of Suffering, She Succumbs to the Effects of an Accident.
Mrs. Ellen S. Gilchrist, wife of General Gilchrist, died at the residence of her brother-in-law, E. M. Gilchrist, at Brookfield, Mo., Thursday morning. The remains were taken Monday to Scottsburg, Ill., for burial by the side of her sister, Mrs. Flora Scott. Mrs. Gilchrist formerly lived in Keokuk, Fort Madison, and Carthage, and has many friends through this section.
Many months ago, while living at Wade, Fla., Mrs. Gischrist suffered a most fearful accident. While about the house/yard, she stepped upon a patch of sand burs. A poisoned foot was the result and partial amputation was necessary. Several months were spent in a hospital as a result of the injury, and finally, a few weeks ago, Mrs. Gilchrist was brought north by her daughter Magnolia to Brookfield. Her condition was greatly weakened by the illness and it is likely that her death, certainly sudden, was the final result of the accident.
For years, after a long residence in Carthage, Ill., Mrs. Gilchrist resided in Fort Madison. Later she moved to Texas and again later to Florida. Until recently General Gilchrist has been interested in phosphate mining at Wade. The loss of his mill by fire compelled a cessation of work. He was for a long time receiver for the Ft. M. & N.W. railroad, and since then of the C. F. M. & D. M.
Mrs. Gilchrist is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Wood, Magnolia and Anna Gilchrist, and three sons, Joseph, Allan and Edward P. Gilchrist.
The eldest son and Miss Gilchrist were with their mother at the time of her death.
