HE WAS JOHN KREBS

The Man Who Suicided on the Levee Finally Identified By a Burlington Alderman

The mystery of the identity of the man who shot himself in the railroad yards two weeks ago has at last been cleared up the the positive testimony of a Burlington man that the body is of John Krebs of that city.
In the party of Burlingtonians who came down to consult J.C. Hubinger about an alarm system was Alderman Kleppisch, who visited the rooms of Hawkes & Ackley and at once was certain of the identity of the body kept there in a perfect state of preservation.
Krebs was an old bachelor and vereran soldier who lived alone at Burlington and had not been missed from his accustomed haunts, the few who kept tab on his movements having been told that he was gone to Fort Madison on a business matter. He has no known relatives. Once he was well to do, but lost his money in mining claims and later was watchman in the yards of the Burlington Lumber company. He was respected as an honest and conscientious man.
