Illness

-----

WAS BORN IN IRELAND

----

Came to America With Parents While
a Baby, Settling First in St.

Keokuk.

----

Daniel Gorman, a prominent pioneer resident of Keokuk, died yesterday afternoon. Death was due to neutritis (neuritis?), with which the decednt (decedent?) had been troubled for about five months. Though very ill toward the end, he remained cheerful as had been his wont throughout his long life, and to the end recognized friends who came to visit him. The end came at his home, 211 South Third street.

Daniel Marcus Gorman was born on April 20, 1846, at Kilmalie, Charlesville county, Ireland. While yet an infant, he was brought to this country by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Gorman, Sr. The family settled in St. Louis, where Mr. Gorman entered the employ of one of the railroads there, in a responsible capacity.

After residing in St. Louis for several years, Mr. Gorman decided that Keokuk presented greater opportunities for advancement than did former city, and so he removed here, while Daniel was still quite young. Mr. Gorman, Sr., died here many years ago. Older residents will remember him as a prominent figure in the old Keokuk.

Daniel was educated in the schools of St. Louis and Keokuk. November 8, 1869, he married Miss Elizabeth O' Brien, a prominent Keokuk young lady.

For many years Mr. Gorman had been a prosperous business man here. Always frank and hearty, he made many friends, who learn of his death with deep regret. He was at one time a member of the Order of Druids, a fraternal. society.

The decedent is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Gorman, a brother, Thomas Gorman of St. Louis, and Mrs. Mary Taylor, a sister.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock, from the St. Peter's Roman Catholic church, Rev. Father Courtney having charge of the services. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery.
