Mrs. Elizabeth Tweedy Harshman, one of Keokuk's oldest and most highly esteemed women, died at her home, 210 Concert street, at 8:30 o'clock last night. Mrs. Harshman had been in poor health for some time and had been seriously ill since the first of the year. She was eighty-six years of age and death was the result of general breaking down of health incident to old age.
The body is to be taken to Montrose for burial. The funeral party will leave here Saturday afternoon on the 1:56 train for that place and the funeral services will be held at the grave directly upon arrival in Montrose.
Mrs. Harshman's maiden name was Elizabeth Tweedy and she was born at Hamilton, Ohio, on March 15, 1830, of Scotch-Irish parentage. Her marriage to Frank Harshman occurred in Butler county, Ohio, on April 3, 1851. Mr. and Mrs. Harshman moved to Keokuk in the late fifties and resided here for some time. Later they moved on a farm near Montrose and lived there until their return to Keokuk thirty years ago. This city had been the decedent's home since that time.
She was widely known and esteemed in Keokuk and her many friends, especially among the older residents of the city, will learn with sincere regret of her death. Mrs. Harshman was a quiet home-loving woman and had the love and respect of the entire community.
The survivors are Miss Huldah Harshman of this city, a teacher in the Washington school; W. D. Harshman of Edison, Nebr., and J. D. and F. M. Harshman of Wiggins, Colo. Her husband died here in 1902 and is buried at Montrose. Mrs. Harshman was a devoted member of the United Presbyterian church and Rev. H. B. McElree is to conduct the funeral services.
