John E. Pickard of 426 G street, passed away at his home last evening at 4:50 o'clock following an illness of one week with pneumonia. The decedent had been a resident of this city for the last four years and possessed numerous friends and acquaintances here, all of whom have learned with regret of his death. Mr. Pickard was employed at the Harrison Box factory during his residence here and was a faithful and conscientious employe.

The decedent "lined up" at one of the early Scoville meetings for the Methodist Protestant church. Short services were held at the home at 1:00 o'clock this afternoon with Rev. E. LeRoy Steffey officiating, following which the body was taken to the Old home of Mr. Pickard at Salem, Iowa, where interment was made.

John E. Pickard was forty-six years of age, having been born near Salem, July 20, 1869. He was married to Miss Laura C. Allen of Charlestown, Iowa, on February 3, 1897 at Donnellson, Iowa. His wife survives with one daughter, Bertha Pickard. He is also survived by his father, Hiram Pickard of Salem, and six brothers and three sisters, none of whom reside here.

Mr. Pickard engaged in farming during his early life. He resided in Keokuk for a time some years ago and then returned to Salem. Four years ago he returned and resided here up until the of his death.
