____Miss Kate Marion Matless died Saturday evening at 9 o'clock at the residence, 911 Franklin street. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 3:00 o'clock, Dr. Ezra B. Newcomb, pastor of the First Westminster Presbyterian church, officiating. Miss Matless had been a member of this church during her lifetime and was a good christian woman who lived according to her beliefs in this faith, and whose every word and deed leaves a sweet memory on life's page to comfort those who live to mourn her passing. She was a member of one of the oldest and best known families of Keokuk, and a woman whose sweetness of character endeared her to all who knew her. There is deep regret at her passing, and many expressions of sympathy and sorrow have been given the members of the family.
Was Born in Keokuk.
Miss Matless was born in Keokuk February 8, 1856. She was the daughter of Leonard and Matilda Matless. All of her life, with the exception of a few years when the family moved to Fort Madison, was spent here in Keokuk. She was a member of the First Westminster Presbyterian church of this city, and took an active part and interest in the activities of the church. She is survived by her brother, Leonard Matless, and her sister, Mrs. H. A. Knight. There are several nieces and nephews.It was just five months to the hour from the time that her brother Alfred E. Matless, died that Miss Matless passed away. Her mother died last September. Miss Matless death was due to a hemorrhage of the brain. She was stricken early Thursday morning, and was unconscious until her death. She had a similar stroke two years ago but had recovered from it.
The funeral services this afternoon were conducted by Dr. Newcomb. The pallbearers were H. W. Huiskamp, J. Will Huiskamp, John P. Hornish, W. J. Fulton, Dr. J. W. Marsh and John G. Erhart.
