THE MINER’S EXPRESS, Dubuque, Iowa, July 11, 1849
DEATH OF AN EDITOR – John B. Russel, Esq., late editor of the Keokuk Dispatch, died of cholera in that city last Friday week. Mr. Russel had, for many years been connected with the newspaper press of the North West, first in city of Galena, at some town in Wisconsin, at Dubuque as editor of the” Iowa News,” at Bloomington and finally at Keokuk where he established the “Dispatch” but little more than one year ago.
He has even been recognized as a fearless advocate of the principals of Democracy, and in the winter of 1847-48 was chosen as Secretary of the Senate of Iowa.
His death is an admonition of his brethren’s to be ready for the same great changes.
