CHARLES CALLAHAN GUY

Charles Callahan Guy, an old and highly respected resident of this city, died at 2 o’clock Sunday morning at this home, 528 Morgan Street, aged 74 years and 8 months. His death resulted from internal injuries received from a fall on the pavement on Fifth street, just above Main, two weeks ago. Mr. Guy was born in Belvidere, N.J., May 8th 1813 and was the son of John Guy, who came from Yorkshire, England, and settled in New Jersey. In 1836 he was married in Parsippany, New Jersey, to Miss Pamelia Cable, who with six children: Warren, residing in Memphis, Mo.; George, Charles and Joseph, of Keokuk; Mrs. Wm. Thompson, of Keokuk; and Mrs. Charles Wright, of Centerville, Iowa, survive him. A brother John Guy, of Cantril, Iowa, and one sister, Miss Anna Guy, of Spring Hill, Iowa, ten miles from Des Moines, also survive him. Mr. Guy and wife emigrated from New Jersey to Ohio in 1837 and from there to Keokuk in 1856, where they have resided ever since, and where in March, 1886, they celebrated their golden wedding with their six children. Mr. Guy was engaged in the shoemaking business up to the time of his death. He was baptized in the Church of England, but afterward become a Unitarian. He was a kind husband and father and was greatly respected. The funeral occurred at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the residence, 528 Morgan street, Rev. Robert Hassell and Prof. Gunning, of the Keokuk Ethical society, of which he was a member, officiating.
