OLD RESIDENT DIES WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

Wednesday afternoon at 6:40 o’clock occurred the death of Frederick Vollers, an old and respected citizen of this city, and in his passing away Keokuk loses an old resident. He died at the family residence, Twenty-First and Exchange streets and was 78 years, two months and ten days old. Death was caused by a complication of diseases and he had been ailing for several months past.

He was a native of Germany and was born in Hanover, June 18, 1823. He returned to his native country and eleven years later he came back to America. In the same year that he arrived in this country on his last trip he was united in marriage to Miss Gertrude Koehler and settled in St. Louis where he lived for four years. He lived about two years at Warsaw and then came to Keokuk, residing here ever since. He was a carpenter but for the past few years he engaged in gardening.

He is survived by nine children, Mrs. H. C. Cowley, Misses Anna and Emma Vollers, Frank and Albert Vollers, all of this city; Mrs. Carrie Bower, of Chase, Kas.; Mrs. Adam Lang, of Kahoka, Mo.; Ed. Vollers, of Fort Madison, Iowa, and Mrs. J. C. Estis of Los Angeles, Calif. Two other children, George and Fred Vollers, are now dead.
