JOSEPH LOEFFLER DEAD.

His Dissolution Unexpectedly Results From Apoplexy Last Night.

Joseph Loeffler, one of the best known German residents of Keokuk, died at half past 9 o’clock last evening at his residence, No. 210 Bank street. His death was entirely unexpected and a shocking surprise to the members of his family, who are prostrated by the sudden blow. Mr. Loeffler and his wife visited at the residence of B. H. Houtz, on South Second, in the early evening, returning to their home at 8 o’clock. He made no complaint of indisposition nor did he up to the minute of his death. While preparing to retire he gave utterance to the exclamation, “Oh my,” and fell back upon the bed dead in the presence of his wife. Dr. Weismann was summoned but the efforts to resuscitate were futile. Mr. Loeffler has been growing fleshy of late and feared apoplexy, which was the cause of his death. He was born in Germany, was about sixty-two years of age and had been a respected resident of Keokuk for a quarter of a century. He was a member of the firm of Andrus, Loeffler & Co., which dissolved partnership a few months ago. He was a member of the Concordia society and of the orders of Druids and Odd Fellows, and is survived by his and fourth children, Mrs. Charles Frank, of Ft. Madison, Misses Amelia and Lena Loeffler and William Loeffler, of this city. Acquaintances of the deceased will learn of this death with deep sorrow. The old saying about the uncertainty of life finds a sad and striking exemplification in Mr. Loeffler’s sudden summons from this sphere of activity.
