John R. Reid
A funeral for John Richard Reid, 50, of rural Montrose, Iowa, who died at 10pm Thursday, March 31, 1983 in Veterans Memorial Center at Iowa City, was held at 1:30pm Saturday at the Barr Memorial Chapel in Fort Madison with Rev. L. J. Bergthold officiating. A moose Club memorial service will be conducted with the funeral service.
Burial was at the Montrose Cemetery.
A memorial is established with St. Jude's Research Hospital.
He was born Oct 17, 1932 in Gregory Landing, Mo, the son of Frisby M. and Gladys (Foley) Reid. He married Kay Knobbs in Keokuk on April 13, 1957.
He lived in Montrose for 17 years and was an Iowa State Penitentiary corrections officer. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Montrose and was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War with 11 years of active duty. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a manager and secretary of the Fort Madison Moose lodge. He graduated from St. Peter's High school in Keokuk.
Survivors include three daughters,Dawn Reid of Warsaw Ill, Susan Tweedy of rural Montrose, and Shelly Reid, who lives at home, two brothers, Larry of Gladstone Ill and Bobby of Rural Montrose, three sisters, Verna Simmons of Victor, Iowa, Jan Schevers, of Argyle and Judy Dietsch of Fort Madison, one grand daughter, Emily Tweedy, one grandson Eric Reid, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by one infant son and one sister.
