Called Hence?
After years of illness Mrs. Emma Burk passes away.
Mrs. Emma U. Burk widow of the late John Burk, died this morning at 4:10 o’clock at the family home NO. 1111 Johnson street of paralysis after an illness extending over a period of twenty years. Deceased was born August 1, 1833. She was a native of Sweden and came to this country in 1854 and located in St. Louis where she was married in the same year to John Burk, who died in this city in January 1889. They resided in St. Louis until 1864 when they came to Keokuk and resided here until death called them hence.
Deceased was a noble woman an affectionate wife and a kind and devoted mother. She was highly esteemed by all her acquaintances for her many womanly graces. She always admonished her sons and daughters to live upright and honorable lives and she was noted for her kindness of heart. She bore her long suffering with patience and fortitude. S he was a member of the First Baptist church and was a regular attendant at service until confined at home by infirmity.
She was the mother of thirteen children, six of whom, four sons and two daughter survive, Judge J. D. , Dr. E. W., George R and Charles J and Misses Emma A and Sarah J Burk all of whom reside in this city except Dr. Burk whose home is at Canton MO.
