Passed Away: Death of Dr. M. N. Sanborn Yesterday Morning after a Long Illness
The death of Dr. M. N. Sanborn occurred Wednesday from pneumonia at his home 308 South Tenth street, after an illness lasting over nine weeks. His condition was known to be precarious and the end was expected at almost any hour. Nevertheless the news of his death comes as a shock to the community of which he was such an honored citizen.
Dr. Sanborn was born in South Brantree Mass in the year 1825. He was remarkably apt in the pursuit of his studies, which were conducted under the direction of his father, who was a prominent physician of his native town. At the early age of 17 he formed a partnership with his father and his practice was eminently sucessful. In 1850 feeling that the then undeveloped west afforded better opportunity for a young man in his profession, he turned his face toward the setting sun. The long journey was made in a buggy, weeks being consumed in making it. He stopped a short time in Chicago then a thriving country town, but having no promise of its future greatness. From Chicago he came to Green Bay IA and shortly afterwards removed to Charleston, where he enjoyed a large practice. Here he was married in 1852 to Miss Mary Jane Severe and he also built and managed the Blind Hill infirmary.....
